Metroid: Other M to contain a two hour movie upon beating the game

When Metroid: Other M is released on August 31^st it won’t be long until players beat the game in order to watch a two our movie. According to an interview between Team Ninja leader Yosuke Hayashi, the developers of Metroid: Other M and 1UP there will be a theater mode that puts all of the cut scenes from the game together and adds in a few pre recorded game play moments to make a movie.

Due to the difficulty for some players to get into the game enough or to play through it quick enough to remember the story line Team Ninja plans on making it easier for the average Joe. The main idea behind this movie is that “it lets you make a lot of discoveries, things you missed or dialogue that makes more sense in retrospect. I hope it helps people understand the story better.” The movie will be approximately two hours long and be cut up into chapters similar to a DVD.

This is also good news if you are like me and you occasionally hit a button during a cut scene, causing you to miss out on a key dialog and don’t feel like restarting at that point. Now you can just beat the game (I’m assuming there will be basic movie watching controls) and then fast forward to the scene you missed and fill in the hole.

Goldeneye 007 is confirmed for Nintendo DS

Activision has confirmed that Goldeneye 007 will also be released on the Nintendo DS later this year. Initial rumors were that the game would be released on both the DS and Wii, but at E3 only the Wii was mentioned. Joystiq has confirmed with Activision that Goldeneye 007 would actually be released on the Nintendo DS and that it is not a port, after the Nintendo DS came up in Activision’s quarterly earnings report.

The Goldeneye 007 edition for the DS is being developed by n-Space, which has developed games in the past for Wii, DS and PS2. The word on the street is that the new game will contain actual cut scenes from the original game, such as the tank scene in St. Petersburg.

What’s in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Prestige and Hardened Editions?

First noted by IGN, online retailer Buy.com had a product listing for Call of Duty: Black Ops Collector’s Editions. Buy.com was listing the Prestige Edition at $149.99 and the Hardened Edition at $79.99 which are the exact same prices from last year’s Hardened and Prestige Editions for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Upon further investigation into these special editions by myself, I have noticed that Buy.com has removed their product listings mentioning anything about Call of Duty: Black Ops other than to allow users to pre-order the normal edition for release on November 9^th. I have found no other listings on the Prestige or Hardened editions from other retailers.

Those prices could just be placeholder prices that we hear about so often when retailers are speculating in order to be the first on the scene to accept pre-orders. However the more important issue is, what will these Collector’s Editions contain? Will anything ever top the working night vision goggles that were included in Modern Warfare 2’s Prestige Edition? What about a paintball gun in the image of a weapon from the game? Would that even be legal?

Blizzard higher-up makes vague reference to possible console game project

In the wake of Starcraft II, World of Warcraft’s expansion on the way, and the massive expectations for Diablo III, Blizzard VP Michael Ryder refuses to stop making subtle references to possible new games, according to MCV.

Recently, Ryder was quoted saying, “…we play all kinds of games at Blizzard. We try to learn wherever we can. We play console games and we are up-to-speed on the console platforms. And if we see an opportunity where the game design would work well on the console, then maybe we will go that way. We just haven’t announced anything yet.”

The operative phrase here being, “…we just haven’t announced anything yet.” The more hopeful of us could be led to think this means Blizzard is plotting some sort of nefarious console game, reminiscent of their early developing days. Do I smell a Lost Vikings sequel? Ryder went on to comment that they’re not pigeonholed into PC development, but make their design decisions based on what they think is, “best for our players.”

The prospect of a Blizzard produced console game is nothing to scoff at, but it’s much too early to guess at what the company could conceivably have up their sleeves. We’ll report back if more details emerge!

Madden 11 soundtrack attempts to bring the stadium experience home

With the Madden 11 release two weeks away and the demo available tomorrow, EA Sports has finally announced the soundtrack listing. This time around, the theme is stadium authenticity. No showcasing of new artists this year, but instead, old fan favorites. Also, the NFL Films songs by Sam Spence also appear to be gone. Even though many won’t even notice they are gone, I will miss them.

AC/DC, Ozzy Osborne, GNR, Queen, and Kiss are just a few of the big names to headline this year’s game. In addition to those bands, there will be notable Team Fight Songs from the Eagles, Packers, Bears, and Redskins to name a few. They better have the San Diego Super Chargers as DLC!

“The term ‘Madden Music’ has come to mean music that matches the intensity of the video game,” said Steve Schnur, the Worldwide Executive of Music and Marketing for EA. Schnur then goes on to say “There is nothing like the experience of live football in a packed stadium, and the Madden NFL 11 soundtrack absolutely brings that excitement home.”

I have to agree with Schnur on the fact that nothing compares to the experience of going to a football game live, as I have attended a few Giants and Jets games, but something tells me the rest of the atmosphere of many large drunk fat men (including myself) screaming and chanting nonstop will be missing. And that’s essential to the whole stadium experience.

The Green Lantern is finally starring in a video game, Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters

With the Green Lantern film in production for a June 2011 release, Warner Bros. Interactive is working hard to get a game out for the movie’s release. The game will be titled Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters which “gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern Mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books” according to Samantha Ryan, Senior VP of Production and Development with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

This will actually be the first time DC Comic’s Green Lantern has starred in a video game or movie. Very little is known about the game for now other than that it will “take place across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring.”

With the movie tentatively set to be released on June 17^th 2011, I would bet that the Rise of the Manhunters will most likely be released in June 2011 as well. It will be available across the board on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and Nintendo DS.

The MMOMFG forum is here for you. Whether you want to discuss, debate, vent, or just say hi, this forum will allow you to interact with fellow gamers from around the world. Jordan Challenge highlights Michael Jordans career in NBA 2K11

For the past month you have probably been wondering why Michael Jordan was chosen to grace the cover of NBA 2K11. Today we know why, 2K Sports announced that there will be a Jordan Challenge mode according to G4TV. The mode allows you to play as Jordan and the Bulls to recreate 10 of his airness’ most memorable moments in NBA history.

You will have to lead the Chicago Bulls to victory over the Utah Jazz in game 6 of the 1997 NBA finals 90 to 86 for the championship. Despite playing as Jordan and having Scottie Pippen as a sidekick you will still have to overcome Hall of Famers John Stockton and Karl Malone. I wonder if Jordan will have slightly reduced attributes for this game as he was still recovering from the flu?

In a 1990 game you have to play as Jordan and score 69 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. That was Jordan’s highest scoring game of his career with the bulls barely winning 117-113.

In addition to the Jordan Challenge there will be 7 classic Chicago Bulls teams to play as from the Jordan era between 1985 and 1998.

Could this be a new era for 2K Sports by taking a former great and coming out with a new challenge mode each year? Who would you like to see next? My vote is for Larry Bird or to make a mode where you have to play as the Lebron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers and make sure to win the MVP every season as well as leading your team to the best record without ever winning a championship.

Spider-Man shatters the fourth dimension, final setting revealed

Originally seen in the Amazing Spider-Man issue #252 and made all the more famous by Tobey Maguire in the 2007 movie Spider-Man 3, the Symbiote suit brought us emo-spidey and Venom. As seen earlier on IGN, it now makes a return in the upcoming Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions as it has been revealed to be the fourth and final dimension in the upcoming game.

This dimension looks more like the Ultimate Spider-Man game with cel-shading and enemies like Carnage or Deadpool that will immerse you into the comic book styled world these characters were conceived in.

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is set to release on September 7, 2010 for the Nintendo DS, Playstation 3, Wii and Xbox 360.

Thor to grace consoles and the big screen next year

Who here knows their Marvel Comics and Norse mythology? Well, Thor is getting his very own game to coincide with the movie planned for a 2011 release. However, and this is a big one, the video game will not be parallel to the movie, as it will have its own original story line. The story will take Thor “through the numerous worlds of Norse mythology that span realms ranging from primal worlds of fire and ice to extraordinary planets inhabited by Frost Giants and Trolls to save Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods.”

SEGA will be publishing it, but it won’t be released until 2011 for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP, according to 1Up. There will be three different developers making the game. Liquid Entertainment will be making the versions for Xbox 360 and the PS3 and will contain “enemies up to four times as large as Thor, with multiple grappling points and a variety of strategies for taking them down.” Sounds like Shadow of the Colossus to me.

The Wii and PSP version are being developed by Red Fly Studio, with the game having a comic book look to it. Meanwhile, the DS version will be a 2D side-scrolling game, developed by WayForward.

The game should hold true to the comics as Thor will face old enemies such as Ulik, Loki, Ymir, and Surtur. Don’t worry, Thor will have his trusty hammer, Mjölnir, along with the ability to wield the power of lightning, thunder, and wind, which will be unlocked throughout gameplay.
