EA Sports MMA demo coming soon, these screenshots should hold you over

All those interested in EA’s upcoming MMA title (appropriately named MMA), should mark down September 28th. That’s the date the we can all get our hands on the demo. Can it stand toe to toe with the king of MMA fighting, UFC Undisputed? Only time will tell, but the demo should definitely give us a good idea of what to expect. This is EA’s first fray into the MMA genre, but with past experience in boxing with Fight Night, expect plenty of realistic bloodshed and slow-motion, bone-jarring hits.

Unfortunately, none of these screenshots show anything like that.

(Update) Portal 2 coop screens from PAX and Valve are freakin’ cute

PAX Prime is in full swing as the waining hours of Friday approach, and what could be considered the cutest darned screens have just emerged from a pretty serious title from Valve that you may know as Portal 2. Valve is at PAX with its puzzle solving hit and is clearly excited about showing of its cooperative gameplay. The robotic duo featured in the coop mode, and in these screens, show how absolutely gorgeous the Source engine can be (as if we didn’t know that already!) and prove that even robots like giving bro hugs.

We will hopefully be bringing you some hands-on impressions and gameplay footage, as MMOMFG editors Dustin and Jake are live at the show. Stay tuned and check back often for your latest PAX and Valve news.

Mega Man Universe gameplay trailer and screens are just a tease

Capcom still hasn’t given us a whole lot of information concerning Mega Man Universe, but at least now we have an idea what it’ll look and play like.
A blend of old school Mega Man with a look and feel of Bionic Commando Rearmed, Mega Man Universe has an interesting style attached to it. As far as playing the game, well…it plays like Mega Man, which isn’t a bad thing at all. However, it would be nice to know some of the “Universe” features that will be added to it. I assume we’ll have to wait a little longer for that.

Mortal Kombat screens feature Hi-Def bloody gore

This small batch of MK screens feature some favorites fighters like our ball-hitting bro, Johnny Cage, scale-man extraordinaire Reptile, here’s-your-hat-what’s-your-hurry Kung Lao, and some other fighters I could care less about. Actually I love them all equally but I’m running out of creative names to give everyone.

In all seriousness though, the Hi-Def upgrade with the nostalgic feeling of classic MK is tickling me in all the right places. I can only fathom the type of fatalities we’ll get to feast our eyes on in the upcoming months.

Fear 3 seems to be getting scarier by the screenshot

Fear 1 was pee-pee inducing scary. Fear 2 was scary, but it also played like I was on acid half the time (not that I’ve ever done acid I’m a good boy). Fear 3 (aka F3ar) looks like it’s reaching into the deepest darkest depths of someone’s imagination. Hopefully the addition of cooperative play will allow me to hold someone’s hand throughout the ordeal. Dustin and I might need to recreate our cooperative experience a la Resident Evil 5.

I see myself playing as Paxton Fettel, he just seems more the talkative type and quite sociable…like me. Unfortunately for me, Dustin shoots like a one-eyed tree hugger and might be the worse FPS player ever. I’m as good as dead (again).

No breakdancing wizards in these Lord of the Rings: War in the North PAX screens

And thus begins the trickling of news, screenshots, and videos from PAX Prime. Over the next three days (Fri-Sun), companies will be showing off their latest and greatest.

First up to the plate is The Lord of the Rings: War in the North. A three player cooperative slice and dice fest against the forces of Sauron. Coming out sometime in 2011, War in the North embraces the brutal combat and mature themes of Tolkien’s universe. No idea what kind of story this will follow, but with the ability to create your own mini fellowship, count me in. I haven’t really enjoyed a LOTR title since Return of the King on Xbox.

Jimmy’s got a gun in upcoming Mafia II DLC from 2K Games

Earlier today, 2K Games announced that on September 7, Jimmy’s Vendetta, the second DLC update for Mafia II will hit PCs, PSN and Xbox Live. With a nice shift from the linear story mode, the DLC will feature arcade-style gameplay offering more than 30 new quests, a leaderboard ranking system and challenges to test your mobster might.

Jimmy’s Vendetta offers you the chance to play as the badass that gets called when a job needs to get done. Jimmy’s got a bone to pick in Empire City, so the Italian and Irish mobsters better watch their backs! During your progression with Jimmy, you’ll unlock new quests, some featuring assassination, some driving and a fark-load of shootouts. Through chaining combos, multipliers and bonus points, you’ll compete to land the top overall scores to brag about with your friends and online competition. Not quite multiplayer, but it is getting closer and definitely will add to your Mafia II experience. The Jimmy’s Vendetta DLC, available Sept. 7, will cost you $9.99/800 MSFT Points. So, which one of you punks is going to get this and score less points than me? Bring it!

Heroes and villains mix it up in these DC Universe Online screens

Watch out Batman! I know you’re already being distracted in a fight against Cat Woman by her fun bags; there is someone behind you throwing a giant boulder in your direction. With DC Universe Online only a few months away, we have more screenshots for you to whet your pallet before its release on November 2^nd.

They are all action shots of the various heroes fighting villains. It seems that onomatopoeia words used in the old comic books have been replaced by bright colored flashes of light to show impact. The rest of the screenshots are below for you to ogle over.

Look at these Portal 2 screens and watch the Co-op preview video forty times

Here we have two things, several incomprehensible images from Portal 2 and the shortest conceivable look at the co-op mode one can imagine. The images depict a few things we’ve seen, namely the blue goo imbued with the power of making you bounce in really awesome ways, and said blue goo covering everyone’s favorite automated death machines with eerily sweet voices. The other images are of a variety of gorgeously rendered industrial death-scapes I can’t wait to fling myself through. Check them out for yourself and try and make sense of them in between ogling and pretending you aren’t excited.

We’ve also got about a minute of co-op footage showing the two adorable robots we’ll be controlling in the campaign. One of them is inquisitive and one of them bobs rather uncomfortably. It appears Aperture Science preserved Woody Allen in once of those personality spheres. The video shows the what I hope is a painfully basic co-op puzzle finally giving us a precise idea of how the portal mechanic is going to be used in that mode.

NeverDead screens from Gamescom capture the grass that’s not so green

This guy has a rough (after)life. Getting torn to pieces, fighting gigantic demonic beings, getting shunned buy a cleavage packing hussy, and looking strangly like Johnny Knoxville is not easy. This is especially true for a guy that is constantly pulling himself together to fight yet another battle. Reminds me of Wolfman from Monster Squad.

What we see here is the undead hero toting two guns (hopefully special in their own right), and battling some annoying asshole throughout a lower subway station. Regardless of losing an arm or leg our homeboy continues to fight the good fight while still controlling all his limbs. This could be a new breakthrough for victims of dismemberment? Think about it, lose your arm and it’s no big deal. Sure all your shirts will look retarded, but you can just set your arm on the table and walk away while it’s still working. This brings a whole new meaning to “the stranger.”
