Valve to release a mobile Steam app

Steam for mac

We all love Steam, right? They provide incredible deals, incredible games, and it’s comforting to know you are supporting the company that gave birth to Gordon Freeman, the Portal gun, and all of those zombies from Left 4 Dead.

Now Valve is cranking up their Steam service to 13, as today Steam has announced they are releasing a beta of Steam for iOS and Android devices. Steam players can now chat with one another anywhere in the world, browse through community groups, view screenshots and user-generated content, read gaming news, and so much more.

“The Steam app comes from many direct requests from our customers,” said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. “Seeing which of your friends are online and playing a game, sending quick messages, looking at screenshots for an upcoming game, or catching a sale – these are all features customers have requested. Mobile is changing way people interact, play games and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone.”

If you are interested in joining the beta, point your browser to the official page for the mobile beta and download the Steam app absolutely free. Once downloaded, log into the Steam account via the mobile app and show your interest. In the near future, players will be added to the Closed Beta as the service becomes more stable.

Steam, now on your browser? It’s as if Gabe Newell spread his anus cheeks and dumped out a pile of gaming goodness all over our faces. Now if you’re excuse me, I’m going to go use the bathroom.
