Blizzard: StarCraft movie would need James Cameron

starcraft

As we all know, Blizzard is already dipping their hands into the movie business with the World of Warcraft feature. It’s been in production with Sam Raimi at the helm since 2006. MTV Multiplayer recently spoke with Rob Pardo of Blizzard and asked him if they were considering crossing the rubicon with any of their other precious properties, namely Starcraft:

“We’ve always had an interest in seeing our stuff on film or TV. It’s just tricky to find the right partners. We probably could have made a ['StarCraft'] movie or something on TV years and years ago, but it’s really important to us that we find creative people that are really talented but also really excited about our properties. That’s always been the challenge for us. I think if Jim Cameron came to us tomorrow and said, ‘You want to make a ‘StarCraft’ movie?’ we’d probably sign that.”

The Protoss are certainly blue enough to attract his attention and there’s plenty Jim Raynor slash fiction for him to draw inspiration from for graphic Protoss-on-Terran scenes. Whether James Cameron or Blizzard is writing the dialogue, it’ll be just as campy. I predict the plot will go something like this: The Terran forces are invading Protoss homeworld’s in search of rare minerals. A crippled Jim Raynor parallel uses new technology to enter the body of a Protoss local and ends up falling in love with a Protoss princess. Now just inject the plot of Pocahontas in and end it all with the lead riding a Brood Lord against the evil Terran invaders. I smell Oscar.
