UPDATED: Guillermo del Toro fauning over videogames, has multiple in the works

faun

UPDATE: The LA Times today reports that Guillermo del Toro is in negotiations with game publisher THQ over a deal to bring his vision and current game projects to THQ. So now we know where his projects may go. Stay tuned to MMOMFG as we continue to update this story of a kick-ass film director crossing mediums to the dark and damp world of video games (what? it’s certainly not sunny in your basement).

Yes, I just used faun as an adjective. And, no it probably doesn’t make sense, but let’s not lose sight of what’s important here. That being, one of the greatest creative visionaries of our time, Guillermo del Toro, is getting his feet wet in the baby game making business. It has long been specualted by del Toro (director behind Hellboy, and Pan’s Labyrinth), and others, that the progression into the gaming world would one day happen, but now, through his own words, it appears that day is no longer just a surreal dream filled with fauns and fairies. Here is the most important quote you will read today, straight from the creative’s mouth:

“One of the things we’re announcing in the next few weeks is a big deal with a big company. We’re going to do games that are going to be technically and narratively very interesting. It’s not a development deal. We’re going to do it. We’re doing them. And we’re going to announce it soon enough.”

Del Toro is well known for his magic realism inspired worlds that create a surreal, dream-like, and albeit creepy, atmosphere. It should be very interesting to see just what the man behind the eyeless-man has up his sleeve for the gaming world. I have no doubt he will deliver an undeniably unique and wonderfully twisted experience. Stay tuned as we will update as soon as word of his project finds it’s way out of whatever mind-maze he has hidden it in.
