Comic-Con reveal: space combat in Star Wars: Old Republic
Comic-Con is turning into quite the place to reveal new details about your hotly anticipated upcoming game. Case in point, BioWare revealed yesterday that upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will include space combat. Cue laser sound effects…now!
The reveal came out of a SW:TOR panel at the show. It seems that space combat for the MMO in a galaxy far far away will be “an alternative gameplay experience to the primary game of storytelling, questing, and ground-based combat.” The official forum goes on to say “In space combat, you fly your personal ship to various “hot spots” on your galaxy map. From there, you will blast your way through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, destroyers, and a variety of other obstacles that will evoke memories of some of the great Star Wars™ space battles.”
Sounds like it’s not a PvP mode, but still sounds like a good piece of added gameplay to the MMO. PC Gamer will have more info in their October print edition, the cover of which is available for your viewing pleasure below. The magazine will drop August 17, and the game is scheduled to hit shelves in the spring of 2011.
