Valve and 2K Games team up to package Mafia II with Steamworks

Announced today, Valve and 2K Games will be teaming up to give the PC version of Mafia II the benefits of Steamworks including auto-updates, Steam Achievements, statistics, downloadable content, and etc. In addition, if you pre-order Mafia II (standard or digital deluxe) through select digital retailers including Steam you will get a free digital copy of the first Mafia game to play on the spot.

2K Games president Christoph Hartmann is pleased to be working with Steamworks as it will allow their development team to bring more downloadable content: “It’s meant that we can spend more time creating content and a great experience for our customers because we know that Steam and Steamworks are enabling these important features within the game.”

Hopefully in the long run with Mafia II and Civilization V teaming up with Steamworks, more game developers will follow suit as it hopefully helps persuade them to spend more time developing new content.
