Fight Night Champion announced, grab your mouth guard

Fight Night Champion

EA Sports has released information regarding the next step in the Fight Night series. According to IGN, this new, standalone title will be released in 2011 for the PS3 and the 360. And with this announcement comes a bunch of veiled information on how the game will work, with phrases like “Fight Night Champion will break the mold of what is expected in a single-player sports game,” and “It’s something people won’t expect from an EA Sports game” from the developers at EA Canada in Vancouver, and more specifically Gameplay Producer Brian Hayes. They are rather mum on details.

But some things were available to whet our appetites. Fight Night Champion will include a new system that will provide “the most realistic punching system ever seen” but still make it easy and accessible to use. This may be the new “Full Spectrum Punch Control” that will allow greater control over movement in the ring. The pantheon of fighters this time around will range around 60 to 65, and new features for online play and your fighter’s career mode.

Fight Night 3 was the first sports game I ever bought, and thoroughly enjoyed making a fighter based on myself and taking him up against the greats.  I am a bit wary of them introducing a whole new system for the game, but if it works, who am I to argue? Maybe Kinect/Move functionality? Nothing more accurate than a real punch, right?
