Real ID thrown out the window for use on Blizzard forums

blizzard

Good news, Real ID will not be coming to the Blizzard forums. After listening to everyone (reading through nearly 50,000 posts) Mike Morhaime, CEO and Cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, cleared up the issue saying that the new forums will not use the Real ID function. He points out that the reason behind the initial push for real names on the forums was to make the community areas feel more welcome and to encourage constructive comments about their games.

Now when the new forums launch for Starcraft II at the games release, players won’t use their real names but instead they will post with their Starcraft II Battle.net character name and their character code. When Cataclysm launches for World of Warcraft, players won’t use their real names either. Even though Blizzard decided against real names on their forums, the new forums will still bring “new forum features such as the ability to rate posts up or down, post highlighting based on rating, improved search functionality, and more.”

That being said, Morhaime continued to press the importance of having a community and that he wants the Real-ID to evolve past where it is now while keeping the option of remaining anonymous.

To cap it all off, Morhaime says again that Blizzards connection with their community is very important and that “every voice matters” from their mission statement. This shows that Blizzard really does listen to its players and fans feedback. Let this be a sign for all players to keep letting their voices be heard on the Blizzard forums whether they are reporting bugs, giving helpful criticism, complaining about imbalances, or even injustices over their privacy.

On a side note, there have already been over 1500 responses on the WoW forums of people rejoicing over this decision.

Doesn’t anyone notice the three most important words in the below quote from actibuzzard’s announcement, which are AT THIS TIME ….???

“As a result of those discussions, we’ve decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums….”

Typical corporate double speak, this is only temporary. Wake up, people…
