Rumor 3G coming to next generation handheld consoles
Rumor has it that portable gaming devices may be able to connect to the 3G network in the future. NTT DoCoMo, a Japenese wireless carrier claims that it is talking to video game device makers about adding their 3G network to the next generation hand held consoles according to the Wall Street Journal.
No specific companies were mentioned, but it is probably either Sony or Nintendo and might as well be both as they have very popular hand held consoles with the PSP and DS. While they both have Wi-Fi connections NTT DoCoMo president Ryuji Yamada believes that “in order for portable game machines to take the next step forward, they need wireless communication.”
There is also a possibility that it’s not for the next PSP or 3DS, and rather a competitive device Sony or Nintendo wants to create in order to compete with Apple’s Ipad and Iphone.
