Sony announces Playstation Plus membership for PSN

Sony announces a premium membership plan for the PSN. It’ll cost 49.99 for a year and 17.99 3 months for 17.99. For a limited time Sony is also throwing in 3 months free for a limited time.

The Playstation Plus members will get free DLC, automatic downloads, firmware downloads, and even PS1 titles. Sony will be sending out monthly PSN Plus downloads exclusively for them. You’ll own all the content for as long as you have a PSN Plus membership.

The free PSN membership isn’t going anywhere and being a PSN Plus member is fully optional. Don’t go jumping off of bridges just yet.

    Firmware downloads, eh? Did I just hear a death rattle? They gotta be crazy not to give firmware updates for free.

    I heard him say it, it might just be automatic downloads or something. They aren’t going to charge for firmware, just maybe make it quicker to get or something. I wasn’t sure of what he meant either but it seemed noteworthy.
