Twin Peaks Battleground Revealed for World of Warcraft Cataclysm

WoW Twin Peaks header

Earlier today, Blizzard revealed details about their first Cataclysm battleground, the Twin Peaks. The Battleground will be located in the Twilight Highlands and be fought between the Wildhammer Clan of dwarves (of Grim Batol fame) and the Dragonmaw clan of orcs (of Outland/Netherwing fame).

Blizzard describes the battleground as a “capture-the-flag” style battleground much akin to Warsong Gulch. This is the first major battleground since Burning Crusade to not feature vehicles of any kind, to the glee of many players.

The main difference that Blizzard is pushing between this new battleground and previous battlegrounds is the variable terrain that will have a larger effect on play than previous battlegrounds. Blizzard has placed several choke points across the field to encourage holding strategic points rather than running straight across.

According to Blizzard: “Although the Wildhammer and Dragonmaw bases are virtually identical, the terrain surrounding each base is not. Players will need to work to control an asymmetrical field where the mountain peaks are divided by a valley river. A single bridge over the river serves as a choke point in the center of the map; although deep, the river can be crossed. On either side of the river sits an outpost where temporary character enhancements can be claimed. “

The Twin Peaks Battleground will also feature several large obstacles which are designed to be used as line-of –sight objects and have placed the Horde and Alliance bases on top of plateaus with 3 entrances a piece. Meaning the Druids’ Typhoon spell and the Shaman’s Thunderstorm spell will still be a “strategic” way to send players flying hundreds of feet to their death.
