His Airness, Michael Jordan, to Grace the Cover of NBA 2K11

While EA Sports is trying to turn around its basketball franchise, 2k Sports is pushing forward and it has been confirmed through CNBC that the one and only Michael Jordan will be gracing the cover of NBA 2K11. While “His Airness” may be retired from playing he is still involved as the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats and always commands a lot of attention within the basketball marketing world. It’s a good thing MJ won’t be un-retiring, like how Favre decided to join the Jets after retiring from the Packers, ultimately being named as the cover athlete for Madden ’09, still in a Packer’s uniform.

This move is clearly intended to stay a step ahead of NBA Elite 11, especially when Jason Argent, the vice president of marketing for 2K Sports went on to say “we’ve made a lot of progress over the past 10 years, but we know we have the best NBA video game ever made here… Actually getting this done is the most ridiculous win of all-time.”

It is unknown if and how MJ will be included within the game just yet. If I were a betting man, I would put money on either an All-Time Greats team or a superstar mode where you play as Jordan through his career and have to match his achievements. Argent confirmed that NBA 2K11 will be arriving on shelves on October 5^th.

To continue with 2k Sports’ last promotion to pitch a perfect game and win $1 million in MLB 2K10, they should do something to give away one of their custom made gaming briefcases they keep giving away to athletes, according to ESPN. Who wouldn’t love to have their own?
