[UPDATE] Red Dead Redemption screens instill fear in chickens and PETA fans
After yesterday’s trailer, I thought we were done with Red Dead Redemption features for the week. Not so fast, my friend! Rockstar Games has just released another handful of screens that display John Marston and some furry (or feathered) friends directly before meeting their demise. If you needed one more reason to pick up a copy of this game, you’re going to get it later today. Rockstar will be updating the Red Dead site to highlight the features of Hunting & Wildlife. As noted in the title, PETA should likely look the other way, as these animals aren’t going to be protected by your silly real life protection laws!
Marston has it out for the wildlife and if he isn’t using their feathers for a sweet vest or bones for toothpicks, he will probably construct some sort of bird underwear. Well he might not be able to do those things, but if I worked at Rockstar, you could bet those would be crafting options! Check out the screens below and then wait anxiously for further details on hunting. We’ll have them up for you later today, so make sure to check back!

UPDATE: Fresh details straight out of the chicken coop: Red Dead Redemption will be overflowing with more than 30 different species of animal. There will be herds of livestock to domestic pets to numerous predators trying to eat you alive. Each animal will have its own unique behaviors such as dogs barking at enemies as well as chasing wagons, barnyard animals will scatter at scary noises, large birds scavenging corpses for food, and large predators being aggressive trying to attack yourself and your horse. For now, Rockstar is showing off a few of the wildlife to be discovered with awesome looking posters for Grizzly Bears, Raccoons, and American Buffalos to name a few. The posters describe the animal’s weight, height, and habitat.
There will be occasions when either the predators will attack you and be forced to defend your horse and your own life as well as other times when you will want to go out and hunt all wildlife for sport. After you kill an animal you will be able to skin or pluck its corpse and trade the hide or feathers to local merchants. In addition to your gun and lasso, there will be other items to help you hunt. There will be bait that can attract all wildlife in the area as well as binoculars to help you scout out your prey. Of course you will also need a hunting knife that will help in close range combat as well as skinning your kills. To entice all the animal lovers out there, there will be in game challenges involving hunting in both single and multiplayer modes.
