Blizzard and Facebook Team Up To Make Games More Socialable
Blizzard and Facebook are teaming up to make your gaming experience a bit more social. Soon it will be easier to find your Facebook friends that secretly play Blizzard Entertainment games. The idea is to allow someone to match up their friends from Facebook to their Battle.net friends. That is, assuming they integrate their battle.net account with their Facebook account. Blizzard intends to test it out in the near future during the Starcraft II Wings of Liberty beta and it should be available to ship with the full retail game on July 27th.
Blizzard also intends to make it available for their other games. How would it work for Warcraft since there are multiple servers, will they also add in cross-server communications? I also think this is an infringement on ones privacy, for those gamers who secretly play World of Warcraft. Will it just work by matching the email address that is registered through both products and then just add all of that person’s characters in game to your friend list? Hopefully Blizzard will shed some more light on these issues if and when it will be extended to their other products. For now, it will just allow you to find other friends who are also playing the Starcraft II beta and brag about how lucky you were to score a key.
