Get infected with Dead Rising 2 details, Captivate 2010 trailer

Get your fix from killing zombies? Then Dead Rising 2 will be the game for you. Capcom unveiled the motherload of DR2 details earlier today.  The trailer that was released (shown below) is extremely vague with a number of holes in the plot. I technically have no idea what the plot involves other than to just kill zombies and defend a little girl. Thanks to Nick over at Destructoid, the plot has had its holes filled… It seems that Chuck Greene, the main character, is a former motocross champ who has arrived in Las Vegas to compete in a reality show that pits him in an arena against zombies to win large cash prizes. Why is he doing that, you might ask? Because he needs to take care of his young daughter who was recently bitten by a zombie, and if he cannot afford the expensive Zombrex medication for her, then she will surely become a zombie herself. Why do most zombie games or movies involve some type of helpless female character? They only bring it down, as I would much rather be slaughtering zombies instead of worrying about getting the medicine to her on time.

Just like in the first game, there will be a ton of tools at your disposal in which to not only slaughter, but to deface and maim endless amounts of the Z-words. In this sequel, you will have the opportunity to combine multiple different items to create just about any type of weapon imaginable. You get a chance to be just like Brett Farve, you can throw a Hail Mary and hope it gets intercepted by a zombie. The Hail Mary in this game is a grenade duct-taped to a football; get ready for the explosion when it gets picked off. There are other awesome weapons like the Tenderizer, which are MMA gloves with nails attached to them. There will be combination cards found throughout the game that give you ideas, as well as a bonus to PP when the weapon is used. Although, you won’t actually need the combination card to make the weapons. So let your imagination run wild in creating outrageously vicious zombie killing weapons.

One of the coolest new features in the sequel is the availability of co-op play. It will not be available when playing on the same console/television, however, as it has to be done over Xbox Live. You can summon in a buddy to help you fight the endless waves. There are no other characters to play as in the game, so there will be a splitting of dimensions with two Chuck Greenes running around. Due to the fact that there are so many different ways to customize how your character will look, it shouldn’t be too difficult to tell each other apart. There shouldn’t be any ultimate weapons that require two people, nor will the missions scale in difficulty by having a 2nd Chuck around. It should increase the fun factor and make it safer to hunt zombies with a buddy by your side, though. Only the Chuck who is hosting the game will be able to save their progress in their storyline unfortunately.

Dead Rising Co-op

If you can’t wait for Dead Rising 2 to hit the shelves on August 31st, Capcom will be releasing a paid DLC demo that will act as a prologue connecting the first and second games. There is no known price for it yet and the date hasn’t been revealed yet either, but I expect it will be a few weeks to a month before the final release. The prologue will be named Case Zero and contain about 3 hours of zombie killing and rescue missions taking place in the desert town of Still Creek. Sounds like the most fun an infection can offer.
