NLC Investigating Microsoft Over Child Labor

Microsoft is under some heavy heat now that one of their suppliers, KYE, was discovered using child labor. KYE’s factories produce an array of Microsoft products including Xbox 360 controllers. The National Labor Committee is investigating Microsoft over KYE. It is reported that KYE was paying its workers, some of which were children, $0.65 an hour and forcing them to work 16 and half hours each day. After being charged for food in the factory, the workers only took home $0.52 an hour. Both Apple and HP also outsource products to be made by factories similar to KYE in China. So why is Microsoft being singled out?

Microsoft is launching its own investigation into KYE. What will be the fallout of this? Are there enough gamers out there who are strong on human rights and would boycott Microsoft? I can definitely say most gamers are probably too involved with games to really give a rat’s ass and will probably never get wind of the situation. But damn, you got to feel bad for all the workers who are treated like slaves. They can’t even leave the factory over night to go home to their families, and if they do, they are fined the equivalent of $29.26 and fired immediately.
