Beef Up your 360′s HDD With New Stand Alone Unit
A couple of days ago we brought you news that the Xbox 360 will be able to support USB storage with a Spring 2010 update. At first glance it appeared that Microsoft was finally waving the white flag on its external memory market with USB support (up to two 16 GB USB drives) being sufficiently more economic than Microsoft’s current 512 MB memory cards. It goes without saying however that Microsoft is not ready to give up that easy, they still have one little trick up their sleeve.
The above ad popped up today on the 360 dashboard highlighting a new standalone Hard Drive weighing in at 250 GB. This beefy Hard Drive is currently only available on certain limited edition consoles but the ad suggests we should see it in stores soon as its own stand-alone item. While this may not be a huge surprise, the price may ignite a sense of shock. For the announced price of only $129.99 you can now be the proud owner of a 250GB HDD, more than twice the storage of the 120 GB and for the same cost. I was originally ecstatic about being able to back up my game saves and DLC to USB but this seems like the big ticket item for those looking to be able to securely back everything up (on one device) or even to just have a little extra room to store all the glitz and glamour that Xbox Live has to offer.
No official date as of yet, but as soon as one is announced we will bring you an update.
