Xbox 360 Slim Coming Soon?

With the recent evidence cropping up on several websites, it sure looks that way.

Let’s examine what we know so far.

Microsoft is selling bundle after bundle of 250GB consoles, which may be well and good, but that doesn’t help the person who doesn’t want to spend $400 on a “special” edition Xbox 360.

Microsoft’s Elite system is now in direct competition (price wise) with the PS3 Slim, which can still double as a blu-ray player.

Rumors have been rumbling for awhile now that Microsoft has been looking to combine the GPU and CPU onto one circuit board. This would make the system smaller, easier to cool, and allow MS to provide an entirely new shell for their system.

Finally, our biggest evidence comes by way of Engadget’s post. The picture in their post shows a Xbox 360 motherboard with the combo GPU-CPU that would be required for a slimmer 360.  A picture is worth 1,000 words, but my only reservation is that heatsink/cooler. Cooler Master makes great fans and all, but that just seems a little too “customer level”. I’d expect to see on in my computer, not in a console.

File this one under huge rumor, but if official news break, we’ll be posting back asap.
