Borderlands DLC packs going retail

Borderlands looks nice

Gearbox is set to release several packs of downloadable content for their 2009 hit, cell-shaded shooter Borderlands, in a retail setting. You know, on an actual disc as opposed to being distributed by magical Internet gnomes. The retail pack was dated today and priced by the game’s publisher, 2K Games: the Borderlands Double Game Add-On Pack will hit shelves on April 6 and cost around $20.

What’s that? Hold the phone, you say? Yes, there was a third DLC for Borderlands. It was called The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, and it is NOT included in this retail pack. My, what sharp eyes you have, dear reader. This add-on pack will include both previous DLC entries for Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot. So it’s got that going for it.

Why release a retail version of Borderlands DLC without including all the downloadable content that’s available for the game? Don’t look at us, we’re scratching our heads on this one too. If you’re stuck on the more basic question of why Gearbox would bother making a hard copy of these DLC packs available, well that one’s a little easier to fathom. Believe it or not, there are some gamers out there whose XBox’ and PS3′s aren’t connected to the Internet. Shocking, we know. I’d also think there are plenty of kids on console Internet services who don’t have access to a credit card or must rely on their parent’s card for digital DLC purchases. If you’re one of these unfortunate and/or young gamers, this Borderlands retail add-on pack is, literally, just for you.
