Battlefield Bad Company 2 Servers Blowing Up
If you’re one of the thousands of people who tried to log on yesterday and blow stuff up in DICE’s newest installment in the Battlefield series only to be met with frustration, take solace in the fact that you’re not alone.
Not to discount the single player portion of the game, Bad Company 2 (and all of the Battlefield games) are known for their multiplayer. It just so happens that everyone else who bought the game last night realizes this and tried to log on and play. Unfortunately, they were met with countless issues. In no specific order of severity, Dustin and I had the servers crash on us mid-game, had the EA servers (stat and login servers) spontaneously disappear, and have had to wait a good two to three minutes for servers to populate. I’ve also run into a nice little bug that automatically kicks you from any game you try to join.
People (as per usual) are up in arms and have posted wildly on the forums as seen here and here.
I can’t speak as to the severity of these issues on the 360 or PS3, but if you have anything to add, please do.
As a developer, I love DICE, they’ve brought me some of the best gaming experiences in the last 10 years or so. But almost like clockwork, their games don’t exactly perform the best under launch conditions. I have faith though, that in the next 24-72 hours most of the server issues will be remedied and expect news of a patch sometime next week.
Expect our review of Bad Company 2 at the end of the week. That is, if we can actually get online to play.

Had the same issues, however I did manage to play a few rounds of Deathmatch and Conquest all the way through. This game is awesome. You have to expect some of those first day headaches. They are worth it, thought. This game completely envelopes your senses and drags you into battle like no other I have played. Can't wait for the bugs to get cleared and see you on the Battle Field.

Likewise Massassin. As far as BF games go, this is probably one of the smoother launches they have had. See you on the Battlefield!

I seriously couldn't get in a multiplayer game after 9:00 p.m. CST last night. On top of that, the few I got in before kicked me for Punkbuster (I'm not a cheater) and also numerous server crashes/EA outages. Pretty weak stuff.

I am in southwest Wisconsin and I was only able to access 3 out of 8 or so of the severs listed. Out of these, there were only 18 players playing and everyone was trying to get on the 16 player server instead of a 32 one. One of the servers out of Texas would kick me out within seconds of logging in. I think due to punkbuster but I haven't been able to find it for my 64bit Windows 7 PC. I have a PS3 but I couldn't imagine playing this game on anything other than a PC.

Yeah these things unfortunately happen. Really is frustrating. Since the master servers are having issues I decided to try the Single Player as well. Definitely some sound issues in single player one moment the dialogue works the next it doesn’t. Changed up and selected different audio and speaker settings which cause it to work for about 30 seconds then the sound has issues again…
I will say though that EA is usually pretty good overall with makin’ sure these patches get out pretty quick. So let’s all cross our fingers and hope for the new patch SOON!

I was able to play several games on Xbox Live, but got kicked from a few and experienced the connection issues. The gameplay was pretty good, in terms of how smooth the controls are and the graphics are decent, though not stellar. The developers seem to have sacrificed some in the graphics to creat the fully destructible environment, which i can deal with. BF remains one of the top games that I have played for overall FPS experience.
On the down side, I understand that there are always bugs and kinks on launch days, but that doesn’t make it less frustrating when you have been waiting for a game. To echo a post on another site, would you put up with this kind of performace from anyother product that you buy? Unfortunately, we really have no choice but to wait.

Patience!!!!
It will happen
The game is going to be great, its crazy to think that something that runs of machines all over the world supporting this type of multiplayer is going to be bug free the 1st day.
That is what ipods… smart phones… tivo… whatever tv..do to you. you have all been taught to GO GO GO GO GIMME NOW GIMME NOW

Websites down as well, they keep saying they’re working on the issues. Stat’s are down as well as the Soldier page, the leaderboards are all wacky and not updated. They said they’d update stats every 15 minutes, but it says ‘Stats will be updated in 118 minutes’ now which is really really gay.

Seems like you're one of the sane people playing.
Good jerb by you

Waiting for data…. Waiting for data…. Waiting for data…. Waiting for data…. Waiting for data…. Waiting for data…. Waiting for data…..
Connection has been lost…. Connection has been lost…. Connection has been lost…. Connection has been lost…. Connection has been lost…. Connection has been lost….
Of the 28 tries to get into a game, 1 has been successful…. for less than a minute.
Really? I paid 50 bucks to see this? Honestly, if you want to brag about being better than IW, make sure you deliver. Even the nasty IWNET gave me absolutely zero trouble into getting a game.
And don’t blame my router either seeing that crap IWnet actually works flawlessly as well as easily being able to get into a game with COD4 and WAW.
The reason why i moved to battlefield was because i am utterly sick and tired of COD, but the technical issues in BC2 are unbelievable, i hope this gets fixed or im shelving BC2.

Ok guys and gals, i have had a few of these issues but I have played something like 16 hrs so far, yeah the server issues are annoying blah blah, they will fix it give them a moment to figure it out, all software has glitches thats why everything gets patches

@cisco: How much is EA paying you to say that?

This game won’t even let me log into the EA Servers, when I click on any of the options on the multiplayer menu, sign in with the correct details, it says something meaning that I don’t have Xbox Live Gold subscription, which I do, and have done for 4 years, it works perfectly on every other game.
Even when I make a new EA Account via the website, and try and link it to a different gamertag, it says ‘system error try again later’ on their website. Are their servers COMPLETELY fried? Stupid EA.

@Chris: Chris, I know there are still a large number of errors occurring, but I guess patience is the best policy. It drives me insane to have to wait, but other than calling EA directly for a solution, there isn’t much you can do at this point. I don’t think they’ve finalized a golden fix for EA servers for BFBC2 yet, but stick with it. My PC version is still having some server issues too, as of last night.
Posted on March 5th, 2010 at 12:57 pm
@Chris: Ditto on the Xbox problems, though not the same ones. When I play rush it just sends me to the dashboard, weirdest thing ever. But the few times I have been able to jump in and play a full game have been absolutely amazing. It seems like every night past midnight I can’t even join a game, says server is down so hopefully they are using that time to come up with a solution.

After running the game as an admin on my Win7 machine, I was able to play for 4 or 5 hours last night without any problems. It was a blast! However, today, I can’t even log into EAs servers. I know patience is a virtue, and everyone has opening day issues. (WoW used to have ques to log into their servers) but at least you could get in and play eventually. You’d a thunk they’d have learned form all their BF2 issues and done it better this time around. . .
