Sony makes the Little Big Purchase of Media Molecule

Media Molecule

As the tried and true statement goes, “the rich get richer.” In this instance, it is the rich corporation of Sony acquiring a content rich game developer in Media Molecule today. The purchase makes complete sense, keeping Little Big Planet and future titles from Media Molecule as Sony exclusive. What exactly does this entail for Media Molecule, though? Will they be free to continue on their current titles or will Sony be utilizing them for pre-planned projects. Luckily Sony set the record straight.

According to Michael Denny, senior VP of Worldwide Studios Europe, on Sony’s blog today: The acquisition will enhance the talent pool within SCE, protect past and current investment and ensure a solid base for future investment. Media Molecule have exciting projects in the pipeline and we’re looking forward to sharing these with you in the not too distant future. The most important thing is that nothing will change from your perspective; Media Molecule will simply continue to make great games. Welcoming Media Molecule into the PlayStation family will allow us to better support their future titles and ambitions.

With Little Big Planet having scored Media Molecule over 90 awards, including two BAFTAS, you can expect Sony to milk the piss out of this cash cow. Sony Computer Entertainment is making the right kind of moves in terms of acquiring system exclusive developers, further strengthening their war against the Microsoft Xbox 360 and their execs. I have a feeling with Sony’s bankroll and Media Molecule’s moxy (and gusto), we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Ba-ba-ba-baby, we ju-ju-ju-just ain’t seen nothing yet!
