StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Closed Beta now live
The much anticipated sequel to the 12 year old, original StarCraft has now opened its doors (slightly) for a closed beta. Those who have been following the sequel in the news will know that this beta is actually just a beta to part 1 of the “trilogy” slated to be released, the Terran campaign, Wings of Liberty.
While the game has actually been scheduled to release several times over the past couple years, it finally managed to get Blizzard’s typical “soon” treatment. The original launch was slated for the summer of ’08, which was pushed way back to Holiday 2009, and finally landed on this month for its closed beta release.
Those who signed up for the beta, like yours truly, will get an email confirmation that you’ve been accepted as a tester. Some testers have even mentioned having to log in to their battle.net account in order to find out that the beta was available to them. I’m anxious to see if I am one of the thousands lucky enough to get zerged like crazy.
Word has it the installer tome is sitting at a decently sized 1.64GB and has minimum system requirements of:
Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
2.2 Ghz Pentium IV pr equivalent AMD Athlon Processor
1GB system ram/1.5GB for Vista and Windows 7
128MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video card
1024×768 minimum display resolution
4GB free HDD space
Broadband connection
(Hopefully) See you on the beta, fellow Terrans!
Update: Tried to get on my BNet account and the servers were down from the volume of people trying to get on, wish me luck!
