Sony to demonstrate motion controller at GDC

I’m going to do my best not to get sidetracked on the numerous lady-pleasing objects this new controller is so crudely similar too, but it will require every ounce of restraint I have.

Sony will be introducing this magic wand of a motion controller at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference on March 11, 2010. For those lucky enough to attend the conference, the hour-long demonstration will begin at 3pm. The GDC website describes the new controller, rumored to be named Arc, as a way to “create new game play experiences, by allowing players to interact with their console in high definition using their bodies. The Motion Controller uses 3D position and orientation tracking, camera input and a controllable RGB LED to bridge the gap between camera, motion and traditional interfaces.” Though it hasn’t been stated what game will be demoed at the conference, Sony demoed the device showing off its capabilities with Resident Evil 5 Alternative edition during the Tokyo Game Show.

It is my hope that these images are just early prototypes, and not in fact the design for the final product. Otherwise, the proverbial parody floodgates are going to pulsate wide open.
