MMOMFG ran our review of Darksiders last month and we were quite pleased with the title (though overall the game has had a hot and cold effect over the media). Having recently beaten God of War and Dante’s Inferno, does Darksiders still stack up as a top title? Well, if you haven’t had a chance to play the game, THQ and Vigil Games are bringing a 90-minute demo of the game on February 25 to the PS3 and Xbox 360, featuring the full first level, the Twilight Cathedral, offering multiple boss fights, full areas to explore, puzzles to solve, and souls to acquire.

General manager of Vigil Games, David Adams stated: “We are really pumped to be bringing a playable demo for Darksiders to Xbox 360 and PlayStation3. We really wanted to give gamers a true idea of the variety of gameplay that the game offers and so rather than just making a standard 20-minute demo version of the first few levels, we decided to give away this massive level and reveal the true essence of the game.”

The question at hand is why wait so long to deliver a demo. We are big fans of offering such a big chunk of the game to test out, but honestly, why not offer a demo pre-release to peak interest? We’ve beaten the game and loved it, but like we mentioned above, there was mixed feelings over the game upon its release. If you think a demo coming out nearly two months after release is a good way to sell more copies, let us know. Obviously, they want to increase their sales numbers after a release, but why not shoot out a demo with a handful of new content of DLC to keep the original purchasers interested and at the same time, lure the new Darksider fan in with additional content? I guess THQ knows better than us regarding what makes for successful game marketing, given their track record with certain titles (read: WCW vs. nWo World Tour.)
