Next Assassin’s Creed to follow Ezio to Rome
The next iteration of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise will take place in Rome, the company announced today during a financial earnings call. This news comes just a few weeks after Ubisoft revealed that the next Assassin’s Creed game will follow familiar protagonist Ezio de Auditore and include an online multiplayer element.
The facts that the third AC game will break with precedent and follow the events and characters of the previous game as well as include a multiplayer component are not new, but raise interesting questions none the less. How will Ubisoft pull a multiplayer function off in a stealth-action game? My sincere hope is that multiplayer is manifested in an MMO-type style – gameplay that I think would be much more fun than a menu of multiplayer mini game options. Imagine how cool it would be to form groups with your friends in Assassin’s Creed: two warring factions of thieves guilds battling it out on the streets of Rome sounds like a sackful of fun.
And that’s the real news today, that the third AC title will take place in Rome. Those of us who beat Assassin’s Creed 2 will remember an all-too-brief foray into the Italian capital. Tell us, dear readers, are you more interested in seeing what kind of multiplayer mechanic Ubisoft can come up with, or returning to Rome? Maybe you’re not looking forward to either and were hoping for a new character in a new time period – I know I had crossed my fingers for an Assassin’s Creed 3 set in feudal Japan with ninjas and samurai and sushi and shit. Either way, let us know in the comments below.
