Konami getting in on World Cup action… sort of
EA Sports is releasing a FIFA World Cup game in April, this you know, because we posted it. Well, Konami isn’t missing out on World Cup fever, the makers of Winning Eleven will drop their own Cup themed game this Spring. Kotaku reports that the title will be called Winning Eleven Aoki Samurai no Chosen and will be available on the PS3, PSP, Wii, PC, and something called a PS2, whatever that is.
As with all Konami football games, this game is dangerously void of the licenses that allow EA’s FIFA series to portray the names and likenesses of nearly every club, country, and player in the world. But what do you need really need those for? They’re not really necessary if you want to pull off an even semi-realistic World Cup simulation. Except that they totally are.
Winning Eleven Aoki Samurai no Chosen (Google Translate has no idea what to do with that title, BTW) will focus on the Japanese national team and its attempts to qualify and compete on the beautiful game’s biggest stage. The Japanese could very well be the only team licensed to appear in the game. I can’t help but wonder if opponents names are even available – if not, Japanese gamers could be qualifying for the WC against the likes of Oceania, Hailand, and bitter rivals South Orea. Oh, the excitement.
