Fallout: New Vegas gets trailer, fall release

Bethesda Softworks today announced that Fallout: New Vegas will launch this fall. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the RPG will launch on all three platforms: XBox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.  The official site has been updated this afternoon with an interesting description of the game as well:

Experience all the sights and sounds of fabulous New Vegas, brought to you by Vault-Tec, America’s First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation. Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland. A word of warning, however – while Vault-Tec engineers have prepared for every contingency,* in Vegas, fortunes can change in an instant. Enjoy your stay.

* Should not be construed as a legally-binding claim.

Take from that what you will. Could the ‘getaway’ that is New Vegas be a virtual one in the next installment of the Fallout series? Sounds like it but it’s probably too early to tell. Lucky for us Bethesda has also dropped a delightfully post apocalyptic teaser trailer on us. Scope a dark desert, an unexpectedly illuminated city, and a shadowy figure bearing a flag in the clip below.

Ok so I'll preface this statement with the obvious: Fallout 3 was amazing, one of the best games ever. Now that being said, I am pretty concerned that this game may not really bring anything new to the table beyond being in a different locale. I really want to know how Bethesda improved the series game play wise before I get super excited – I'll still be buying it (maybe thats what Bethesda knows)

we really want to know that stuff too, mike. we've got until the fall to figure it out, so i'm sure we'll see more from Bethesday on New Vegas sooner or later.
