PS3 gets Bad Company 2 demo tomorrow, XBox 360 snickers

Bad Company 2 is launching across XBox 360, Playstation 3, and PC platforms in just about a month. A demo was dropped last week, but only in a few places. PlayStation 3 owners, the unlucky bunch, haven’t had the chance to shoot up Bad Company 2′s demo yet. That all changes tomorrow, February 4th, when the demo for DICE and EA’s latest FPS parachutes onto the PlayStation Network.

This appears to be a growing trend: publishers staggering the release of demos across platforms.  EA and Visceral Games did it with Dante’s Inferno, for instance. But wait, do mine eyes perceive dots to be connected here? Both Bad Company 2 and Dante’s Inferno are published by Electronic Arts.  Perhaps this isn’t a trend, but a marketing strategy by EA.

Perhaps it’s too early to tell. After all, Lost Planet 2, a Capcom developed and published title, pulled basically the same stunt back in August/September. Either way, I’m not too put off. At least the demos are coming out for both consoles, unlike Haze, a Ubisoft published FPS that only demo’d on the PS3.

With this news, any PS3 users tears over the wait should be dried. Jump on the PlaySation Network starting tomorrow to get your hands on the next installment of Bad Company. But don’t expect any sympathy from me. You guys got Uncharted 2 and I didn’t. So keep your QQ’s and pew pews to yourselves.

wow are you an idiot or what ?
PS3 already HAD a beta from November 13 to Dec 13… and they get the demo tomorrow as well…

    You should have wrote:
XBOX gets BFBC2 Demo 2 days before PS3; PS3 laughs their asses off – having already wnjoyed a month long BETA that XBOX totally missed out on..

First off, the PS3 and PC users had access to the BETA, not the demo. Xbox 360 users QQed about not getting a beta, but then were awarded the demo a week early. It is different from the beta and they were given slightly an advantage of testing it out.

This article doesn't reference the beta advantage, but come on, give the 360 users a moment to shine.

I was thinking the same thing ANymouse. Also, from what I understand, the publisher doesn't always get to determine dates of the demos, thats more up to PSN and XBL because they have different approval process. I don't undersatnd how this can be conceived as a marketing strategy anyway???

Sometimes, but not always. There have been times when demos have been "exclusively" released for one console or the next. Not always for marketing, but there are sometimes as well as there are times when either the PSN or Xbox hamper the release of a demo (or DLC for that matter), so your point isn't without merit.

i realize ps3's had an open beta for a whlie now (and admittedly should have referenced that) but i think there's a difference between a beta and demo. one's for testing and one's for marketing. i think there are some gamers out there who would skip a beta and wait for a more polished demo experience.

nutzilla – a demo is a essentially a marketing vehicle and timing it would be part of a marketing strategy. but yours is a good point, maybe its just down to something technical like how quick MSFT or Sony can get it up on their network.

apologies to the ps3 fanboys if i overlooked the beta here. but my main point is the question of why these demos are staggered. im most interested in if the publishers, or developers, or consoles themselves have the final say.

Good post Andrew, I understood what you meant without needing to reference the Beta. I get the demo today I hope (being February the 4th here in New Zealand) otherwise the wait will end tomorrow). Fanboys are teh gay, give alot of PS3 gamers a bad name -_-

360 snickers? lol id rather get a beta and a demo then a demo a week ahead of time.

  • G-Unit

Yeah, I swear to God if the demo arrives toNIGHT, I am going to die waiting…. I played the Beta, and it was extravagant. I want to play this demo, so I can finally introduce BF to my CoD-obsessed friends.

Funny there's been a lot of debate on which better, where I think the games couldn't be more different. Didn't realize there's such an argument between the two.

Its the 4th now today and i still don't have a fucking demo! WTF!!
