AvP demo bursts out of chests this Thursday

Alien Vs Predator is getting a demo, with multiplayer to boot.  This we know.  But now we know when to expect said demo to burst gorily from the chest of your console or PC.  The AvP Galaxy blog is reporting  that an AvP demo will hit XBox Live this Thursday, February 4th.

Citing an ad that briefly ran on the XBox Live Spotlight Channel, AvP Galaxy reports that this should signal the end of the world the coming of an AvP demo for both XBox 360 and PlayStation 3 this Thursday.  Am I excited, you ask?  I’m practically drooling with Xenomorph spit right now.

Questions remain, however.  For instance, I’d disembowel a Colonial Marine to know which multiplayer game modes will be included in this demo.  Because there are some kick-ass modes coming in this shooter. Unveiled just yesterday by the SEGA Europe blog, we’ve included details on all 7 below, straight from the Preadtor’s clicking mouth.

DEATH MATCH:
If you love a game with frantic, brutal chaos then Death Match in AVP multiplayer is for you. It’s all about getting the most kills in the time limit set. Players can also win the match by hitting the target score before anyone else.

INFESTATION:
For total over-whelming mayhem, nothing comes close to the tension and potential for pant-wetting scenarios than INFESTATION. One player starts the match as an Alien Hunter and their task is to kill the Marine prey. When a Marine player is killed they will join the Alien Hunter team and help to kill off any remaining Marines.

MIXED SPECIES DEATH MATCH:
just like Death Match, but with mixed species. Two teams, made up from all three species fight to get the most kills in the set time limit or to reach the target score before the other team.

SURVIVOR:
For the ultimate test of stamina, play Survivor Mode. Survivor allows for up to four players to enter an arena to fight waves of progressively stronger aliens. Each arena will be set up with two main areas. One will be a platform which is relatively easy to defend; the other will be an area where ambush by aliens is more likely. Supplies of health and ammo will re-spawn in this second area.

PREDATOR HUNT:
If you’re after a more stealthy multiplayer game go for Predator Hunt. In this mode one player is selected to become the Predator Hunter, the rest of the players take the role of the Marine prey. The Hunter must use the Predator’s stealth abilities and advanced equipment to pick off the prey and score points. The Marines will need to defend themselves from this threat and if possible, to kill the Hunter.

SPECIES DEATH MATCH:
Species Death Match pits a Marine team, Alien team and Predator team against each other in a race to get the most kills within the set time limit or to reach the target score before any of the other teams.

DOMINATION:
Take capture the flag to a whole new level with Domination. In Domination two teams fight for ownership of Control Points around the level. Owning a Control Point gives the team a small and steady, stream of points. The more Control Points owned, the more that team scores. A team will win when their score has reached 100 points.

I played AVP2 to death years ago. By far the most fun matches was the Infestation mode. In this new version you've reported that one random person starts as the alien hunter – in the 2001 game everyone started as a marine and it was a free for all. If you were that unlucky bastard to spawn in an open area, you died and immediately spawned as an alien.

The maps that supported this mode quickly developed well known dead ends and choke points from which surviving marines could defend themselves. Oftentimes hallways would be stacked with a dozen marines, standing atop one another, guns ablazing at the few onrushing Aliens. There was a time limit, and unless the starting alien had Downs, the marines generally never won. The franticness of rushing to the rally points, conserving ammo, and staggering reloads was half the fun. Did you unfortunately spawn as far away as possible? Were you going to get cut down before you could reach safety?

On a few select maps, I generally loved starting as the alien – you would hold shift to run on walls and ceilings, and just start obliterating the players too focused on running to the rendezvous point to watch their backs.

With my cousin, I put many hours into this game. I hope they do a good job of revisiting such strong selling points as in old versions.
