According to emails from Monte Cristo to subscribers of the Planet feature for Cities XL , the game will no longer be supporting its pseudo-MMO counterpart as of March 8th, 2010.

Stating low subscription numbers as the cause, they will stop taking subscriptions on February 1st and begin to “evolve into a fully single player game” according to the email. Once March rolls around expect to see the edition of the Bus as a free content update for single player, and if all goes well, more continuous content updates afterwards.

Those who play the game and enjoy visiting other players’ cities, make sure you get your vacations in at your favorite locale before time runs out and be sure to put those tokens to use!

For more on the farewell, you can read the FAQ that Monte Cristo generously provided.
