Death By Cube… Enix

cboxdeathbycube

Usually before I start playing games for the night, I take a quick gander at the Xbox Live marketplace to see if Microsoft has deemed to give me joy in my life. Not very often am I joyful when I play a trial of yet another junky, been-there done-that game, but ladies and gents, today was different I tell you.

I actually browsed past Death by Cube three times before I decided to play the trial out of sheer boredom, (my other loser friends had “other things to do”, right). As soon as I started the demo I found out it was another un-marketed Square Enix game, as they do have quite the tendency to slip right under the radar.

Death By Cube 2

All I have to say is that I was immediately hooked. This fast paced, frantic Geometry Wars clone had me glued to the tv trying to blast my way through levels that would make your grandfather’s wig fly off. I didn’t even make it through the full demo before I had bought it, and trust me on this, if you liked Geometry Wars, this game is gonna rock your socks off.

The basic premise is simple, you’re a robot trying to remember your past, and somehow completely obliterating other robots helps you remember. There are many types of robots to pew pew, so you know what to do with those QQs, and yes there are l4z0rZ. There are several different game modes, upgrades, and stages, all governed by a nice little robot interface. Top it off with some crazy difficult levels for those speed thumbs out there and you have yourself one heck of an Arcade buy for 800 MS points.

I strongly suggest that you give this one a try, the demo at least. If not, your grandparents will probably get hurt by the robots coming for their pills. Your choice.
