I’m Torne Between Systems, PS3 getting its own DVR

As Natalie Imbruglia once said “I’m all out of Faith, I’m already Torne Torn”. It seems that Famitsu (a Japanese video game magazine published by Enterbrain, Inc. and Tokuma) has recently released more information on the PS3 only Digital Video Recorder kit (DVR). It is expected to hit stores in Japan as early as March with a U.S. release in the near future. The kit codenamed “Torne” will allow PS3 owners to record their HD television programs.

The DVR kit includes a digital tuner that plugs in via USB to your PS3 and the software required for viewing, browsing, and recording programs.

What should catch your eye is that it’s fully compatible with your PSP which can be used as a remote control or taken on the go so that you can watch your recorded shows while your on the run . Although you can not record directly to your PSP. It has to be transferred from your PS3 first as they are built in different formats and must be converted to fit your PSP resolution.

Not only does Torne allow you to record in Full HD (yes that’s right), you can do so while still in standby mode, playing games or watching your Blu-ray movies. A very nice multitasking recorder that outshines the cable companies so called DVR’s. If you have need of a DVR and are a PS3 owner this product may be just what you need. You’ll have to dive a little deep into your pockets to get one but it seems worth it. Solo kits run 9980 yen which is equal to 110 US dollars. And for you non PS3 owners they are releasing bundle packs of this product at the low low price of 42,800 yen which is 470 US dollars. It comes with a 250 gig hard drive and is known as the Playstation 3 Chi-digi recorder pack.
