MMOMFGames of the Week – January 11
Welcome back to another edition of MMOMFGames of the Week. This week’s installment features a couple of masked crusaders standing side by side until the end (of the bad guys, not their man-love), Olympic speed-skating and a man named Sam who is more Serious than your average Sam. Just when you thought you’d have a week off to relax and finish up Darksiders and Bayonetta, Army of Two: The 40th Day hits stores, where you and your BFFF have to drop $60 each in between your weekly GTL (Gym, Tanning, Laundry) routine.
Army of Two: The 40th Day (PS3, PSP, Xbox 360) has been getting amped up with a ton of social media and trailers over the last six months, but the day is finally upon us, January 12, where two dudez can str8 up bro out in co-op mode. The game’s co-op mode has been re-built to include all new tactics and cooperative moves to bring the enemies to their knees. The game is set in Shanghai during a period of economic and governmental ruin. The city has been ravaged by catastrophic events and now the Army of Two must discover the secrets of the 40th Day before Shanghai gets blown the F up. With the ability to upgrade your weapons on the fly, players will have the option to see some of the most advanced weapon customization found in ganging currently on the market. This title looks hot and if you’ve got a buddy you like to play co-op games with, get AoT:4D and blast some fools in the grill.
With the Olympics slated for February, the typical biennial horseslop of an Olympic game is being released this week. Events included in the title are Skeet Shooting, Dinosaur Roping, Karibou Swimming, Burger Time, Karate Olympics and Backwards Kite Flying. There are about 450 more events I made up in my mind. I’d probably buy the game if it played out like my dreams I had from last night. Don’t buy Vancouver 2010 – The Official Video Game of the Olympic Winter Games (PS3, Xbox 360).
There really aren’t any other solid titles coming out this week unless you’re interested in Twin Sector (PC). Not my cup o’ tea, but it comes out tomorrow if you’ve been looking forward to it (in which I express my apologies). There is also the XBL edition of Serious Sam, which should have a few people getting serious, but I can’t be bothered to try it out this week with games like AoT and our below title.
This leads us to the Sleeper Pick of the Week, where I highlight the most insanely conceived video game being released for the week, which turns out to actually be a real game. This week’s SPotW has me saying What the Fark? I present to you now Walk it Out! (Wii). This is not the video game version of UNK’s Walk it Out, however. This is Konami’s crackpot idea where you walk around a city listening to 120 horrible music tracks while unlocking new parts of the city by, you guessed it, walking. Why? Go walk outside and use an iPod, or a Nomad, for Pete’s sake. Who in their right mind is going to find this game fun? I understand it is likely targeted at kids, but get those little fatties out in the real world and walking to their first job, pronto. There is no reason to even consider this a game. Any title that requires to you exert physical movement beyond a light flick of the wrist or hand turn doesn’t sound like a game to me. Just as an FYI, I am the most dominant Wii bowler/tennis player that plays sitting down ever. Want to challenge me? I’ll be sitting on my couch playing my new IP creation titled Sit on It! (Wii) by Crapkom.
