Confirmed: NBA Jam to set Wii ON FIRE

Last week the interwebz were aflutter with rumors that EA was set to resurrect 90′s arcade and console classic NBA Jam.  Just about a week after our report, it has been confirmed by Electronic Arts that the publisher will be bringing an updated NBA Jam to the Nintendo Wii.

In a prepared statement, EA Sports President Peter Moore said “NBA JAM is one of the most recognizable franchises in videogame history.  Diehard fans of the original game have been asking for a remake for more than a decade. We’re very excited to give them their wish this year with the return of this iconic franchise.”

While the original developer of the 1993 classic, Midway, has since gone under, Wii Jam will be developed at EA’s Vancouver studios.  Don’t fret, hardcore Jammers, it’s been reported that the original game’s creator has been brought in to spearhead the project.  This should ensure that the Wii version retains some of the style and charm that made the original such a hit.

Our excitement at the official word of the return of NBA Jam can only be expressed in one word: BOOMSHAKALAKA!!!
