Rumor: Dragon Age expansion disc to drop in March

What better way to start the new year than with a juicy rumor around one of the hottest titles of the old year?  The third downloadable content pack for Dragon Age might be just a few days away, but that hasn’t stopped Czech site Eurogamer.cz from reporting that New Zealand retailers have listed a disc-based expansion for the BioWare RPG for a March release.

The post (please bare with the Google translation), names the expansion simply as “Awakening.”  Detailed as much more than a simple add-on pack like Warden’s Keep or the upcoming Return to Ostagar, Awakening will take place after the final events of Dragon Age, tacking on an extra 15 hours of gameplay.  It will reportedly contain a new character and, best of all, a new origin story.

I’ve rolled 4 different Dragon Age characters to some level of completion or another, just because I wanted to explore the different origin stories the game contains.  They are one of my favorite parts of the game and are all-around awesome ways to start an RPG.  The addition of another excites me to no end; if this feature turns out to be true it will make this a must-have for all Dragon Age fans.

Disc-based?  Why not just release this as DLC, you may be asking yourself.  Don’t fret, children of the download age, while the rumor calls for retail hard copies of a DA:O expansion disc, it does’t completely rule out the same content available over the interwebz.  Who knows, BioWare and EA could be releasing this digitally and physically.  Such is the nature of rumors that this report of an expansion disc could very well be just our first sniff of a jar full of wafty details.

If you’re still working off a horrendous champagne hangover (all that sugar can makefor a seriously painful Jan 1), let your aches be eased by the potential for more kick-ass Dragon Age content in the new year. To spend the time, perhaps you should go roll a class you haven’t played before.  Who knows, maybe this time you’ll be the one to take down the Ogre atop the tower in Ostagar instead of that greedy Alistair.
