Battle Kid: Celebrate 2010 with a new NES title?
Just when your thoughts of ringing in the new year involved champagne, Hennessy, caviar and balloons, RetroZone and Sivak Games drop a doozie of a title in your laps. Owners of NES consoles will have a new cartridge ready to put to the test. Battle Kid: Fortress of Peril will be the latest Nintendo Entertainment System title available in real cartridge format. No need to hunt this game down on emulator, as early 2010 will play host to the release date of Battle Kid, one of the first NES cartridges available in a long, long time.
Luckily, my girlfriend and I got a Retro Duo system about two months ago solely for playing my old NES and SNES carts, but now we’ll have a new game to look forward to. If you thought the days of extremely tough games based mainly on challenge and gameplay rather than graphics were over, you’re in for an 8-bit treat. Can we expect the difficulty of a Fester’s Quest or more along the lines of Demon Souls? Retrozone will offer those answers in early 2k10.
If you’re wondering what one of the last NES carts released was, it was Sunday Funday in 1995. This likely was not the official last one, but I’m a writer dammit, not an engineer! Did you own this game? If so, mail me the copy.
