Next Prince of Persia harnesses power over nature

You might have caught the trailer on the VGAs a few days ago and thought “Man that sure looks like Jake Gyllenhaal” and then started remembering how a high percentage of movie/game tie-ins never work. Fear no more, as details for The Forgotten Sands have been revealed and it doesn’t seem to have any relation to the movie except the release month (May). Still no word on the exact day it will be released, but my money is on May 25th due to the movie being released on the 28th.

And now a little info about the game coming directly from the press release:

About the Game Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the fan-favorite Sands of Time universe. Visiting his brother’s kingdom following his adventure in Azad, the Prince finds the royal palace under siege from a mighty army bent on its destruction. When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost. The versions for Wii(TM), Nintendo DSi(TM) and DS(TM) as well as the PSP® system will feature a different gaming experience from the versions for Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 system.

It’s kind of odd that they just abandoned the other story line and artistic direction from only a year ago considering it was supposed to be a total reboot of the series only to have them come back and insert another game into the original timeline.
