Batman-Arkham-Asylum-Demo-Head1

“Arkham has moved.” Such reads the end of the Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel reveal trailer that debuted during Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, which aired this past Saturday night.  The reveal of an Arkham sequel was a complete surprise to many, but the content of the clip shouldn’t if you read this wonderful site closely.

The trailer initially depicts a scene of dark and gloomy Arkham Asylum, the Gotham City looney bin that stores Batman’s greatest foes and in which The Joker ran amok in Batman: Arkham Asylum.  One of the best games of the year (in fact, it’s this writer’s second favorite action/adventure game of the year, right behind Assassin’s Creed 2), if the sequel can replicate the success of the original on a bigger scale we could have another major Batman blockbuster on our hands.

It may do just that, as the trailer goes on to show henchmen running the streets of Gotham, with a sickly Joker presiding over them in a rundown building, apparently observing the destruction he’s wrought on Gotham.  Could this be an open-world Gotham City game?  If it is and it’s built upon the same principles of the original – addicting combo combat, kick-ass gadgets, and clever boss fights – then sign me up.  You may remember we asked for just such a game in our review.  Fingers crossed that we inadvertently called this one!
