Is the Borderlands sequel already in the works?

Not long ago, Gearbox Software boss Mike Neumann was asked about a the possibility of a Borderlands sequel. His response was a kind of “duh!” – he called a second Borderlands a “no-brainer.” In recent days, details have emerged that point to Gearbox not only thinking of a sequel but are actually ramping up planning and production.
First reported by Superannuation, Gearbox has trademarked the term “Borderworlds.” A Borderlands sequel called Borderworlds immediately makes me think bigger and with more destinations. It’s not even much of a stretch to imagine a Borderworlds consisting of a number of visitable planets….OK, that’s an assumption so huge it’s the definition of a stretch. But a guy can dream about video game sequels. Can’t he?
While the content and name of the sequel is up in the air, the notion that a sequel will happen is not. In fact, publisher Take-Two Interactive considers Borderlands a franchise worth milking. During a conference call yesterday around their quarterly earnings report, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick noted his plans at turning Borderlands into “an important long-term franchise” for the publishing house.
Are you looking forward to the so-far-unconfirmed Borderlands sequel? Think a “Borderworlds” title where you can get the F off the brown, boring landscapes of Pandora would be the right direction for Gearbox and Take-Two? Perhaps you’re just glad we’ve found another excuse to post a the screenshot of Siren’s bum – let us know!
