Medal of Honor: The Hunt for Bin Laden?

EA announced some interesting news today regarding the Medal of Honor franchise that had been dormant for a few years. The extremely popular first-person shooter franchise is getting a new entry in 2010 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and XBOX 360.

You may be asking yourself what to expect from this title. Well, EA’s Los Angeles studio are leaving the typical World War II setting (finally) for a present-day Afghanistan backdrop for Medal of Honor. Players will take control of a Tier One Operator, an elite soldier that receives directives straight from the National Command Authority (read: President).

According to executive producer Greg Goodrich: “When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war. We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

The singleplayer experience will be fleshed out by EA, but the multiplayer will be handled by Battlefield developer DICE. EA has only offered these limited details so far, but expect to learn more as the debut trailer will be featured during the Spike Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12.

I was never a Medal of Honor franchise fan, but despite the picture of the bearded hobo holding a gun in the picture, this sounds decent to me.

Grats! You're going to have a higher score than any of us soon. We should have a contest of first reader to get to the 1,000 mark gets a free game of their choice or something. But I'll find a way to track if people are intentionally marking others down or buffing their own score. :)
