Assassin’s Creed II and Splinter Cell to feature Uplay system

Uplay header

Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced the gaming destination for users to utilize features in their games to unlock content, share achievements and connect with others. This system is activated either in-game or online at the Uplay website. When first announced, things were a bit confusing as to how the actual system worked, as most gamers already playing Assassin’s Creed II were left scratching their heads as to how to get the Uplay achievements in-game.

Upon further information provided by Ubisoft and the available video below, the beta system will be implemented and players can utilize the Uplay points they earn to buy exclusive in-game content such as new outfits for Ezio, like Altair’s costume, and new maps not currently unlocked. Gamers on the PS3 and XBOX 360 can utilize the user interface in game upon Uplay going live, and will be supported for the PC release of AC2. This sounds like a great system for gaming and I look for more developers to begin offering exclusive content to connected gamers without requiring payment for new unlockables.

Check out the video and press release below:

SAN FRANCISCO– November 17, 2009 – Ubisoft announced today that players of Assassin’s Creed II on the PlayStation®3 system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will be able to use the in-game interface to connect directly to the Uplay beta. Uplay(TM) will also be available for Assassin’s Creed II PC at launch.

Uplay is Ubisoft’s online destination where gamers are at the center of a connected gaming universe that has been developed around four primary services: Uplay Win, Uplay Help, Uplay Share and Uplay Shop. The Uplay Beta is launching with Uplay Win.

Uplay Win enables players to collect units based on their actions in the games and exchange them for rewards such as exclusive in-game content or digital items. Uplay Win Units can also be gathered cross-platform and are currently available for PlayStation 3 system, Xbox 360 and PC.

In Assassin’s Creed II, exclusive in-game content such as an Altair costume and access to the Auditore Family Crypt are among the rewards offered through Uplay Win. For those who don’t want to redeem their units right away, they can save them to use on other games such as the upcoming Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction(TM) and many more to come.

Players will also be able to access Uplay Share, Uplay Shop and Uplay Help from www.uplay.com.
