Free XBOX Live Weekends go gold for silver members

You read that right…I hope. Microsoft has announced that this weekend and the next will be free XBOX Live Weekends for Silver subscribers. Reason being that the new features to recently have hit XBOX Live haven’t been tasted by silver members just yet.
Features like Facebook, Twitter, Last.FM, Netflix, Sky Player, Halo Waypoint and 1 v 100 will all be opened up to all regions except Europe from noon ET on Friday, November 20th to noon ET the following Monday. Don’t be too quick to complain on having to wait, stylish Europeans, you’ll be rewarded with two extra days of free. Europe will get its due the following weekend, when Microsoft opens up XBOX Live from 17:00 GMT Wednesday, November 25th to 17:00 GMT the following Monday.
So, if you’re an XBOX Live Silver member, Microsoft wants you to upgrade. Duh. The company is hoping you’ll see how cool it is to have your Facebook friends, Twitter tweets, and last.fm tunes all on your XBOX and pay up. Fall for it or not, we hope you enjoy the free access.
