MMOMFGames of the Week – November 16
Hola, mi compadres! This week is going to blast you in the face with video game goodness. I believe this is one of those weeks in the year that will hurt my wallet, but make me happy in the long run. I’d have to compare this to a man who pays for a prostitute, but ends up having a good time and then the stripper leaves one of his twenties on the night stand as a refund. Odd analogy, no? But it works!
The sheer enjoyment I’m about to receive from Assassin’s Creed II and Left 4 Dead 2 should make this analogy spot on come Tuesday. There are quite a few other titles out there worthy of picking up, including NCAA Basketball 2010, Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, Tony Hawk: Ride, God of War Collection and one sleeper pick, but you’ll have to read below for that one.

Assassin’s Creed II is going to be huge. This title is going to be worth every one of your stinking pennies, so deal with it and buy the fracking game. The first title provided the gamer with an experience of stealth, strategy and beauty that has rarely been matched by other games out there. Ubisoft will deliver the goods on Tuesday and gamers will not be disappointed. Submerging ourselves as the main character in Assassin’s Creed II and not utilizing the memories from Assassin’s Creed original hero will allow us to be more engrossed with the story this time around. MMOMFG will have a review up later this week, so check back for that.

The next huge title out this week is Left 4 Dead 2. We have been following this game closely, tracking the delays in the demo being live and also posting our impressions of the demo. Justin will be handling a review of the game sometime this week, so look forward to that. Early prediction here is that the title is going to be a blast. A blast of a shotgun into a zombie’s stupid ugly face. Little needs explained considering the original title came out just about a year ago, but look for updated modes, weapons and hordes of new enemies.

Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles and Tony Hawk: Ride will be titles that provide fun experiences, but likely won’t be in the running for games of the year for 2009. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles is a Wii-based shooter that has had some pretty awesome advertising, including player controlled trailer FPS moments. Very unique and welcomed to the advertising landscape for games. I won’t be picking up the title, but I’d gladly rent it and play along with a friend, as shooting zombies in Resident Evil has always been a good time. However, with Left 4 Dead 2 being out this week, I’ll get all the FPS I need for a while. Tony Hawk: Ride should be quite the thrill of the week for any skaters or wanna-bes out there, but my problem is that I live in an apartment on the second floor and I can just picture myself landing an ollie and slamming my floor so badly that the cops get called. This should be a sweet game and the flavor of the week due to the exciting peripheral, but I’m just not sure how it’ll hold up with the mainstream fans of skate games who aren’t quite as ‘active’ when they’re enjoying their skate games and preferred sedative of choice.

NCAA Basketball 2010 is a title that fits the niche market of college sports fans, basketball fans and the habitual yearly sports game buyer. There isn’t much to discuss here. If you like any of the things I named above, then you’ll probably buy or rent the game, if not, then pass. Me? I’ll pass. Next!

God of War Collection is going to package all the hotness that is God of War and God of War II in one neat little two Blu-ray disk set that packs all the goodness of both titles in a neat little HD presentation. Each game will feature trophies and hidden goodies not initially found on the PlayStation 2 original releases. This is a must buy for any PS3 owner, especially if you never played either of the first two. Trophies and more were written about a month or so ago here on MMOMFG, so check them out if you are interested.

Last but not least, our sleeper pick of the week is the rarely discussed SingStar: Latino. This game looks muy caliente. Mi juevos es muy encantante. If you like the singer stylings of Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Jon Bon Jovi, Rey Mysterio Jr. and Shakira as much as me, then this game is going to be like Cinco De Mayo and Flag Day all-in-one! I know that I’ve already paid my entire deposit down for this game and can’t wait to group up on PSN to sing a few songs with some of our readers. You bring the bass, I’ll handle the falsetto. And as my good friend Enrique, or Ricky as I like to call him, once said, “Bailamos! Let the rhythm take you over bailamos.”
