Mad Catz says two can play the Wireless N Adapter game

Mad Catz Wireless N

So have you already gone and picked up the Microsoft Wireless N Adapter  for your XBOX 360 yet? If not, hold on a cotton-pickin’ second. Mad Catz has some tricks up their sleeve, including their own Wireless N Adapter that costs twenty dollars less than the Microsoft version. There is another little treat that you might not have been expecting: It also works for your PlayStation 3. WoW!

I’ll be going and picking up this little beauty as early as this week, as Mad Catz states it should be shipping to North America any time now. You’ll remember we reported XBOX 360′s Microsoft Wireless N Adapter a week  ago, but looking at its $99 price tag and only function for the XBOX 360, gamers may be looking the way of the third-party developer Mad Catz to supply their online speed needs.

According to Darren Richardson, President and CEO of Mad Catz, “With more HD entertainment content and online gaming being delivered via Xbox Live® and PSN™, we anticipate the need for Wireless-N gaming adapters will increase. Our Wireless-N Adapter allows Xbox 360 users to access the network wirelessly and for PS3 users to upgrade their wireless technology to the faster N standard.”

Whether you prefer the Microsoft Adapter, only own the XBOX 360, or like the cost/dual-system effectiveness of the Mad Catz Adapter, gaming online is about to get a lot faster and improve some severe lag in online gaming, which is a welcome effect.

While I do appreciate the efforts of console manufacturers in the realm of ensuring that gamers receive a fast and lag-free gaming experience, I don't believe that it justifies introducing new peripherals. It is my philosophy that if you provide the option for online gaming then it is your responsibility as the manufacture/maintainer of such a network to ensure that you provide that experience from YOUR end, not peddle around some additional accessory that is touted to increase the network performance that you should already be working to improve on the server-side in the first place. Just my 2cents.
