A startup called Blabbelon launched today with lofty ambitions to take down Ventrilo.  The company hopes to lure users away from the popular, and perpetually buggy, Ventrilo service with their free, push-to-talk, web-based service.

Millions of MMO fans use Vent, but how many love it?  We’ve had our share of hardships on the service, from having to find someone to pay and set up their own server (we’d never want to pay ourselves) to having to deal with the infamous Vent echo and busted eardrums.

Blabbelon’s service is easy to set up, only requires an email address to get you started, and we’ve found it very easy to quickly invite friends to jump in and out of chat rooms.  While we haven’t used it in-game just yet, we have been playing around with the service all morning and are amazed by the sound quality.  Blabbelon uses a codec from Skype called SILK, which allows for high voice quality without sapping your machine’s bandwidth and resources. Voice normalization allows for everyone in the channel to come through clearly without having to raise or lower certain users just to keep sanity.

If you want to check the system out, visit www.Blabbelon.com and if you’d like to jump into the official MMOMFG Blabbelon channel and chat it up with your favorite editors, hit up http://blabbelon.com/?k=Y2yzyJeXu.
