MMOMFGames of the Week – November 2

Sweet Wowwie Zappas! We’ve got a nice list of games coming out this week: Dragon Age: Origins, Band Hero, Rock Band Lego, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and Agatha Christie: ABC Murders! Granted only two of those titles would be deemed worthy of purchase here at MMOMFG: Dragon Ages and Pro Ev. However, any of you music fans that can justify dropping another 60-spot on a rhythm-based gimmick game may be interested in Rock Band: Lego, or the staggering $199 for Band Hero.
Dragon Age: Origins is a title that looks to deliver many weeks or possibly months of entertainment. A few of us here at MMOMFG plan to pick the title up for the PC and XBOX 360, and have even pre-loaded it to avoid delays on launch day through Steam and Direct2Drive. If RPGs are your thing and you like a game that allows you to diverge from the standard path and experience the game as a whole through side-missions and decision-based progression, then do yourself a favor and pick up Dragon Age.

Band Hero and Rock Band: Lego are titles that look to capitalize on the rhythm-based gaming popularity. Strike while the iron is hot, as they say. Not a lot of new content here other than different bands and songs, but there isn’t anything you haven’t seen before. I feel it is safe to say that Band Hero won’t be redefining the genre such as a title like DJ Hero, but if you like Taylor Swift and other crappy musicians, go ahead and get a copy.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 finds itself stuck between a rock and a hard place due to its release date coming two weeks after FIFA 10, our pick for sports title of the year. However, there are always a boat-load of fans who pick up the Pro Ev series claiming the ultimate in realism for soccer/football titles. I’m not going to argue that the game isn’t the closest thing you’re going to find to the real thing in terms of controls and mechanics, but with limited modes and FIFA offering one of the finest experiences in soccer: Virtual Pro, Pro Ev 2010 may not be able to break FIFA’s choke-hold on the genre at the moment.

For our sleeper pick of the week, run out and solve the crime of poor advertisement for this year’s most exciting new title: Agatha Christie: ABC Murders. You likely haven’t heard of this title before, nor should you have, but this one looks to be a diamond in the rough. Nay! An island in the stream, that is what it is, with no one in between, how could we be wrong? Oh crap! I was just sing/writing a song that should be on Band Hero… I digress, AC:ABCM, as I like to call it, should titillate and tantalize your cerebral cortex in a way that no other DS title can. Perhaps with the exception of my concept DS game ideas: Perry Mason Does it Again and Global Guts: The Mystery of the Missing ‘Mo.
