Don’t expect an Assassin’s Creed 2 Demo

So says a Ubisoft rep, according to Connected Consoles.  If this feels like deja vu, it should – the first Assassin’s Creed didn’t get the demo treatment and the sequel will, much like the protagonist of the title, follow in it’s predecessor’s footsteps.

Back when the original hit consoles, a lack of a demo was be-cried by many fans and some say impacted the game’s sales.  But Ubisoft held firm, saying that, as it’s not very linear of a game, Assassin’s Creed wouldn’t translate well to a demo.  And to that we say “Bullshit.”

Don’t get us wrong, we’re very much looking forward to Assasin’s Creed 2.  It looks amazing, the story is very intriguing (as far as anyone can tell so far, you play a character from the actual period, not a time traveling history buff with a vendetta), and we’ll definitely be picking it up.  But to say that the game wouldn’t do well in demo form is just bunk.  Confine the player to one building, one block, and one objective; BAM – demo in a download.  It’d give gamers a sneak peak of the physics, gameplay, controls, and setting – all the things that every demo aims to do.  It’s not impossible and it could be made to work.

We can’t help but wonder if the lack of a demo, or apparently any effort at producing one, doesn’t have something to do with all the money Ubisoft threw down to produce these beauties.
