Left 4 Dead 2 Demo – Worth the wait
After what seemed like an eternity and my faith in humanity slipping fast, the Left 4 Dead 2 demo for the PC was finally released. Was it worth the wait? Is the pope catholic? Does a bear sh….yep.
New Theme: No longer in a desolate city, Left 4 Dead 2 “The Parish” campaign features a little bit more life, color, and feeling. The south is in full effect as you can even run through a select number of tunes on the jukebox. Daytime is also a first and surprisingly doesn’t hinder the experience at all. Valve has also done a good job giving our four new heroes plenty of banter, interaction, and their own individual personalities.
New Zombies: Getting my first glimpse and then subsequently getting bashed by the charger was a nice experience. I pretty much had two seconds to react until I noticed my guy getting pummeled up and down into the ground before a few teammates took care of him. The Riot Infected is also a nice change of pace as a full frontal assault won’t work and aiming from behind is the only way to take him down. Combine these guys with the old infected and new infected like the Jockey and the Spitter and things can get pretty tense. When a smoker pulls you in, a Jockey grabs a comrade and steers him away, and Spitter blocks a corridor with acid, you’ll do everything in your power to stay alive.
New Goodies: At first I thought the melee weapons were a gimmick but considering they’re close to your vest, require little aiming, and can be swung at a fast rate, they can definitely come in handy. Whether it’s hearing the sound of a frying pan or using a machete to slice and dice, it’s a very welcomed addition. New weapons like the Magnum and Combat Rifle, and new items like adrenaline (gives you a speed boost) and boomer vile (throw it to avoid the horde), are more than enough for any situation.
New Story: Not much can be told about the story but the fact that you interact with an NPC is a good start. The original Left 4 Dead had a noninvasive way of allowing the story to unfold if gamers were interested enough but it seems the sequel might include a little bit more about the infected, “carriers” and more survivors. Whereas Left 4 Dead was shrouded in a bit of mystery, Left 4 Dead 2 might just have a few surprises in store.
A lot of uproar was created when Valve first announced Left 4 Dead 2. Gamers were upset that Left 4 Dead would no longer be supported after a mere year and they couldn’t possibly have enough content to garner a full game purchase. Though the demo obviously wasn’t the full game it gives me a good inclination of what they have in store. New weapons, zombies, a scavenge mode, a new setting, new characters, and five new campaigns seem like plenty of content for your money. Whether or not the rest of the content is as good as the demo remains to be seen, but we only have a few weeks to find out.

Why do I feel like L4D2 will be a flop? I'm a HUGE fan of the first, but for some reason I'm just not into #2 after seeing the gameplay and stuff.
High expectations are high?

Possibly but from the demo all inclinations are it aims to be quite entertaining.

I just played L4D for the first time a week ago, and I really liked it(had to take a break from trying to get past a 37 in Halo 3, yes I know I suck), I downloaded the demo for 2, and it seemed to be more of part one, which isn't a bad thing in my book. Its like a faster paced Resident Evil for me, pure awesome.

Hey we finally agree on something

I'll agree that L4D is definitely a faster paced Resident Evil. Justin forced me to play through all of Resident Evil 5, which I was happy about in the end. However, I love the nonstop action of L4D series and am anxiously awaiting the full version of L4D2.
