Alan Wake leaves no one yawning at TGS 2009
Remedy Entertainment, makers of the Max Payne series, have one of the most anticipated games scheduled for 2010, Alan Wake. Many of the staff here at MMOMFG have been jean creaming over more video and screenshots of the game and TGS 2009 has provided a quick fix for us.
From what we know of the story, the main character Alan is on a road trip with his female partner (wifey material, ifuknowwhatimean?) and he falls asleep in the car. When he wakes up, she is gone and there are cops, criminals and the like trying to impede his progress in finding lady love. Alan is a novelist and a story he has written begins to actually take place word-for-word from his own creation.
The game is slated as a psychological thriller with a film noir crime element. From the early trailer we have seen, the game looks downright intense and very seedy. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the open world action in the game, as the trailer has really only reflected numerous cutscenes and very brief actual gameplay. The game has been in development for years, but Microsoft and Remedy finally dropped some Wakey-goodness on us at E3 this year and now fans (including us) can’t get enough info or screens.
TGS 2009 has a new demo of the game where Alan is being chased through the woods by a sheriff out to capture Wake, convinced the main character is the reason for all of the strange occurences happening in his town. Unlike the demo unveiled at E3, the developers have focused on proving the game isn’t entirely based around Wake needing a flashlight to survive, as the demo proves wake must avoid the sheriff while finding sources of light becomes pertinent. The demo shows the real gritty, dark side of the game and ups the intensity by a lot. However, the game still does not feature the real open world style and still sticks to the linear style that is currently being shown off.
Look back here for more screens and images as they appear and don’t sleep on this game. Ha!
